IMMIGRATION AND LEGALIZATION SERVICES
The Immigration Services Department of Catholic Charities of Central New Mexico is the primary Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) accredited legal service in the State of New Mexico. Catholic Charities of Central New Mexico has been designated by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) since 1979 to counsel legal permanent residents and undocumented individuals in their rights and responsibilities regarding their immigration status in the United States of America.
The primary purpose of the Immigration Services Department of Catholic Charities of Central New Mexico is to keep families together and to reunite those currently separated due to the immigration law.
People attaining legal status rid themselves of the fear of persecution and removal. In many cases individuals become citizens, participate in the political process, and contribute to the betterment of their communities.
Catholic Charities provides the following services:
- Initial consultations.
- INS documentation preparation.
- Document translation (word per word and/or abstracts).
- Fingerprints for FBI background checks.
- Photograph services
- Legal Case Management.
- Advocacy and Liaison between Clients and INS Officers.
- Representation before the Executive Office of Immigration Review.
- Representation for clients in detention.
- Citizenship Interview Preparation
- Citizenship classes
- English-as-a-Second Language classes
Client Eligibility Policy
Individuals seeking assistance with immigration and/or citizenship inquires are eligible for consultation through the Immigration Services Department. Eligibility for services is based on:
- The existence of a problem involving immigration and/or citizenship issues because of the individual's legal status.
- The capability and competence of Catholic Charities to address the issue.
Those clients who are not deemed eligible for services will be referred to other legal resources included in the List of Immigration Resources Form.
Eligibility for benefits under the law is based upon current Immigration Legislation and/or the policies set forth by the INS.
Client Fees
Client fees vary upon the extent of services needed, and are separate from those established by the Immigration and Naturalization Service for filling purposes. For more information, please contact our office at (505) 247-0442 to speak with an Accredited Representative.
