The Family Education Department provides educational services to about 1,000 students each year. We have long been a leader in providing English-as-a-Second-Language courses to immigrants and refugees. In recent years, we have made significant progress in expanding our family education services to prepare parents on welfare for the world of work in addition to addressing some of the common family adjustment problems students face in the process of attaining a higher level of self sufficiency.
We provide the following services:
- Citizenship preparation classes
- Literacy classes
- GED preparation in English and Spanish
- ESL classes
- Parenting Classes
- Basic computer skills classes
- Tutoring services
- Life Skills Classes and Job Skills Classes for Welfare-to-Work participants
Classes and tutoring services are open to the community with the exception of Life Skills and Job Skills classes, which are restricted to newly arrived refugees and welfare program participants. To register for classes call 247-0442, ext. 143 in Albuquerque.
